Book Blogger Shout-Outs #47 - The Edition That's a Month Overdo

The Shout-Outs have been a bit sporadic this fall, I know. I have been spending less time online than I was and therefore blogging has taken a beating because of it. It's been so crazy that I haven't done one of these posts in a MONTH.  I KNOW.  Apologies!
So I'm thinking of changing Shout-Outs to every other week to accommodate this change in my habits. I still want to create a place where bloggers can get recognized for hard work and where others can come and find great posts to enjoy.
I hope you find something interesting, exciting, and thought-provoking in the posts below!  Thanks for being a supporter of my humble blog!

-xoxo Becca

1. For the Right to Learn: Malala Yousafzai's Story by Rebecca Langston-George @ A Lovely Bookshelf
"It answered a number of “why” questions C had that honestly, were difficult for me to know how to answer. The illustrations are lovely and modern. Flaws aside, this was still an overall good read."

2. Wonder by RJ Palacio @ books i done read
"Where Palacio really kills it is in the multiple viewpoints - Auggie's sister, his sister's boyfriend, his new best friend who BETRAYS HIM. Everyone has their shit, it turns out. Life is hard and dumb and lame and amazing and people will always surprise you, by how unutterably cruel they can be, and by how kind."

3. The Admissions by Meg Mitchell Moore @ Utah Mom's Life
"The Admissions by Meg Mitchell Moore is a perfect contemporary piece of literature that lays bare how many families in middle class America feel about raising children and getting them into the best colleges so that they are more likely to have that golden life with the best opportunities. With a snarky wit and a keen eye for observing human nature, Moore delivers a powerful, though entertaining, novel on family life and the drive for success."

4. Under Different Stars by Amy A. Bartol @ Luxury Reading
"Under Different Stars, book one in the Kricket series, took Bartol’s fast-paced writing from her previous series and added the complexities of developing a new world."

5. Pretty Girls by Karin Slaughter @ Traveling with T
"This is like sitting down with a monster. Seeing your worst fears playing out. And knowing there is not one damn thing you can do."

6. The Milliner's Secret by Natalie Meg Evans @ Between the Lines
I like Trish's assets v. liabilities review technique.

7. Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard @ Books at Violet Crush
"So...people who say this book is not similar to ‘The Hunger Games’…just stop, because it is."

8. Room by Emma Donoghue @ guiltless reading
"One of the most difficult books I've ever read. If you don't flinch at difficult subject matter, the first person, five-year-old voice in which this story was told will surely make you weep. Highly recommended."

9. The Underground Girls of Kabul by Jenny Nordberg @ Sarah's Book Shelves
" This is one of those books where you learn a ton, but don’t realize it. I felt like I was just reading a story, but I might as well have been taking a course on life in Afghanistan (particularly for women), Islam, the Taliban, and the effects of war on regular Afghans."

10. The Muralist by B.A. Shapiro @ 52 Books or Bust
"I don’t know what I was expecting from The Muralist by B.A. Shapiro, but I got more than I was expecting. I really enjoyed reading it. It tell a great story that weaves fact with fiction, and history with intrigue."

11. All the Stars in the Heavens by Adriana Trigiani @ Beth Fish Reads
"I should say right here that I was nervous to read All the Stars in the Heavens because I've met Adiana Trigiani and just love her exuberant personality. She's warm, friendly, and approachable. What if I didn't like her newest book? But I should have known to put my fears aside because she's a pro at making her characters seem alive."
