Yay! Armchair BEA is finally here! We've been working on this and planning for months now and I am excited it is finally here. Meeting new people, sharing the love of reading, and encouraging one another to keep on blogging. That's what it is all about!
First things first, let me introduce myself for those of you who are new here. (Thanks for dropping by!) Or, if you are already a frequent visitor than maybe you will discover something about me you didn't previously know!
Please tell us a little bit about yourself: Who are you? How long have you been blogging? Why did you get into blogging? Where in the world are you blogging from?
I've been blogging for 5 years. I had to take a couple of breaks in there for school and for health reasons, but I started in January 2009. We were still a pretty small community back then. It's crazy how big the book blogging community is now and it's exciting! I got into blogging after reading an article on Blog Her by a book blogger and then investigating what that was. I had just had to quit my job as a teacher in order to be a caretaker to my dying father and this was a great hobby to distract myself with. I had no idea I would love it so much! Some of my best friends are book bloggers now! I am blogging from North Carolina.
What genre do you read the most? I love to read because ___________________ .
My favorite genre is hard because I have several so I will just tell you those - literary fiction, historical fiction, YA fantasy/paranormal, and Adult fantasy/paranormal. I love to read literary fiction for the depth. Lit fiction tends to delve really deep into a particular topic and the academic in me loves that shit. I read historical fiction and fantasy/paranormal because I love being transported to another time and place. Contemporary fiction is okay, but getting to visit a time and place you will never ever get to in real life through the transformative powers of literature? Sign me up! Add in the YA element and you have a new time/place with a character who is going through one of the biggest life changes - figuring out what kind of person you want to be. Ahhhh. I love books!
What is your favorite blogging resource?
I'm kind of biased but 2 of my favorites are actually ones I started. Book Bloggers International features book bloggers and helps bloggers connect with one another. It also gives tips and has theme months on bookish/blogging topics every other month. Book Bloggers Do It Better is a discussion group on Google+ for book bloggers only. Bloggers can feel free to ask each other questions, give advice, and in general be super nerdy book people, without all of the hassle of authors and publishers mixed in or it being nothing but self-promotion links. Both are great resources that I hope you will check out if you haven't so far!

What book would you love to see as a movie?
This is a great question. The book I just finished Friday, The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry by Gabrielle Zevin seems to me would actually make a good movie. It has some internal dialogue and narration but nothing a skilled screenwriter couldn't transform well. It just has the kind of story line that movie goers would respond to- you laugh, you cry, you connect, you see yourself in the characters. If you haven't read this book yet, by the way, you need to. It is amazing.
I hope you enjoyed getting to know me a little better! I am going to come visit as many intro posts as I can today! #rahrah #ArmchairBEARocks!
