Vampire Academy #1 (Or, it's about freaking time she wrote a book review...)

Vampire Academy  (Vampire Academy #1) by Richelle Mead

St. Vladimir’s Academy isn’t just any boarding school—it’s a hidden place where vampires are educated in the ways of magic and half-human teens train to protect them. Rose Hathaway is a Dhampir, a bodyguard for her best friend Lissa, a Moroi Vampire Princess. They’ve been on the run, but now they’re being dragged back to St. Vladimir’s—the very place where they’re most in danger...

Rose and Lissa become enmeshed in forbidden romance, the Academy’s ruthless social scene, and unspeakable nighttime rituals. But they must be careful lest the Strigoi—the world’s fiercest and most dangerous vampires—make Lissa one of them forever.

I like Rose and I like Lissa but the book didn't have quite the same grip on me as other supernatural books have had on me.  Perhaps I am not big on reading about Vampires.  I love watching True Blood, The Vampire Diaries, and The Originals, but other vampire series have not made an impression on me.  Perhaps I should try to read the books by Charlene Harris and L.J. Smith.

It's not that I did not like it, because I did, but I  feel if it were not for the Dimitri-Rose relationship I probably would've given up on this one. It lags a LOT in the middle. But I still might pick up the sequel. Haven't decided.  Mostly because I find myself still thinking about Rose and I finished this half a month ago.

“The only thing better than imagining Dimitri carrying me in his arms was imagining him shirtless while carrying me in his arms.”
“The greatest and most powerful revolutions often start very quietly, hidden in the shadows. Remember that.”

  1. Definitely continue! The 2nd & 3rd are my favorites in the series.

  2. I agree. I read this a while ago and only vaguely remember it. I wasn't moved to read the sequel.

  3. Do not read Sookie Stackhouse books. I just wanted to punch her she was annoying and the vamp boyf at the start was even more annoying. I liked the support characters and the only book in the series I liked was when vamp boyf got kidnapped and was out of the picture and wolf boy was in. But I am not a fan of the show, I think the book turned me way off everything about the series. But vampires don't do it for me. Im not really interested in those sorts of stories. so will continue to pass on this series. At least you gave it a go :)
