Review & Giveaway: How to Catch and Keep a Vampire by Diana Laurence

BOOK #: 86
REASON READ: ARC
PUBLISHER: Sellers Publishing
GENRE: Humor
FORMAT/PAGES: Paperback/160
RATING: 3 Stars

Who needs a book on dating a vampire?
Well, Bella Swan and Sookie Stackhouse to name just two...

This lighthearted book is the brainchild of author Diana Laurence. I have to hand it to her that she has created a very unique and unexpected book that takes something big in the literary scene, vampires, and puts a twist on it so it is not the same old same old.

I see this book as a sort of "self-help romance" book. Except it is full of sarcasm and fantasy. Laurence describes why dating a vampire is so much better than dating your mortal boyfriend. She introduces the reader to several vampires, as well as friends who also date vampires. There are even FAQ sections to answer such pressing questions as Are vampires always cold to the touch? Can vampires recognize you by the scent of your blood? How do vampires get around having to pay taxes? Do modern vampires sleep in coffins? (According to Laurence, they apparently prefer sleep number beds these days, lol.)

If you are really into vampires and fantasy you will likely find this book much more charming and amusing than I did. I liked it okay but I guess I don't like vampires enough to read a whole book about them.

So, if you are one of those red-blooded girls (or guys) who thinks that dating a vampire is dreamy then leave a comment to win my copy of the book.

The winner will be announced on Wednesday, December 15th.
Update: I just realized Wednesday and December 15th do not a match make. The winner will instead be announced on Wednesday, December 16th.

  2. I'm not trying to win the book, Rebecca! LOL I just wanted to thank you for giving it such a positive review. If a person not really into vampires has that much good stuff to say about it, I'm very flattered. I hope your copy goes to a good home...thanks for sharing it with your readers.

  8. Well, I can't say that I would want to date a vampire (a little chilly, plus I don't like the taste of blood)- but this book sounds like a fun read. I like books that take a trend and twist is up a bit.

  12. You're opening to the post is just too funny! Bella and Sookie do need this book -- though they are dating two different vampires from what I can tell. One can go out in the day -- the other can't!
