BTT: Funny Books

What's the funniest book you've read lately?

I guess I don't read too many books that have a comedic angle to them. The most recent book that made me laugh and laugh was Ellen DeGeneres' The Funny Thing Is... You can read my review of it here.

I think I need some recommendations on funny books to read. What do you suggest?

  1. Just dropping in to tell you that Shellie of Layers of Thought gave me an award and I'm passing it on to you! Stop by the post to grab the button and check out the instructions.

  2. can't think of any really funny books. I shall have to check back to see what ones are recommended to you.

  3. I didnt even know that Ellen had a book out. i would imagine that that indeed is a very witty and funny book.

  4. I think Ellen's stand-up act is funny, so I bet this is entertaining.

  5. Often I find that it's more one's own mood that determines how funny a book is, because sometimes there's just nothing that can make me laugh, and then the same book can have me rolling on the floor.

  6. Ellen is so funny. She had a book out years ago that I read and really enjoyed. I'm assuming this is a more recent one.

  7. Dave Barry's books all crack me up!
    Also laughed out loud at:

I Was Told There'd be Cake by Sloan Crosby,
    The Know-it-All by A.J. Jacobs
    and anything by David Sedaris.

  8. Hi Rebecca,

here is my take on Booking through Thursday: http://mardel-rabidreader.blogspot.com/2009/07/booking-through-thursday.html

  9. book dragon:Thank you! You are the sweetest!

    Vivienne: Some really good ones!

savidgereads: This is the second book. Her first book was And My Point Is... I have not read it yet.

bermudaonion: I really like her, too.

rhapsody: You bring up a great point. Some days I find everything funny and some days I am rolling my eyes at the same jokes!

Kerri: Yes, this is her more recent one, written right before she began her show.

Lindseygail: I read the Know-It-All and that was a funny book. I'd forgotten about that. Thanks for the recommendations! I like Dave Berry but have yet to read a book by him.

Mardel: Thanks, I will check it out.

  10. My pick was High Fidelity by Nick Hornby. Definitely funny.

And anything by PG Wodehouse is hilarious -- he is a master of clever lines.

I liked this week's BTT theme because it reminded me to seek out funny books sometimes. I often get in a rut of only reading serious books.

  11. Just read and reviewed "The Ridiculous Race" -- a very funny travel book. And Jen Lancaster is one the way to you!

  12. I love Ellen so I'm sure I would really enjoy this one!!
